About this item:
This large platter was wheel thrown in a buff coloured clay that includes some darker peppery specks, giving the fired clay an interesting natural speckled surface.

The platter has a soft, warm white glaze all over. The artist has revealed the texture of the underlying clay surface with a floral decoration.

The design is hand-drawn on the upper surface of the platter using a wax-like resist. When dipped in the satin-white glaze, the design resists the glaze.

The wax resist is burned away during the glaze firing, leaving the pattern reversed out of the glaze, showing the underlying clay surface.

In this platter, the artist has experimented with darker version of the clay, bringing out the contrast with the white glazed surface.

This medium-sized platter is ideal for serving cheeses, entrees, cakes or bring coffee to the table.
